⚡ Op OverVolt Rolls On in Southall ⚡

Despite the weather doing its best to discourage us, Southall Safer Neighbourhoods Team were out in force today conducting Op OverVolt.

The operation was launched by APS Tyler JACOBSON 1908WA, driven in no small part by his known dislike of e-scooters and the increasingly anti-social manner in which some are being used across our wards.

In just two hours of patrols, officers seized FIVE (5) E-Scooters and dealt with FIVE (5) riders for offences including riding on the pavement and using a motor vehicle without insurance. 

Alongside enforcement, riders were provided with education around the legislation and the risks associated with their behaviour.

Perhaps the most telling outcome of the day was the public response. On two separate occasions, local residents approached officers simply to thank us for carrying out the operation. It appears I am not alone in my view that some e-scooter users have been treating the Highway Code more as a set of suggestions than actual rules.

While today's results were encouraging, there is still work to do. Op OverVolt will continue to target those who choose to ignore the law and create risks for pedestrians and other road users.

For anyone thinking of taking a chance on an illegally used e-scooter in Southall, consider this your friendly warning: we may be out in the rain, but we're still out there.
