Always be very wary of traders knocking on your door pointing out issues- Often they may offer to fix cheaply and then ‘discover’ much more expensive ‘issues’ Here is some advice from Trading Standards when appointing trades people Get 3 quotes in writing from different companiesDon’t be put under pressure to have the work done (e.g. if the trader suggests that the work is urgent - seek a second opinion, or if the trader suggests a price reduction for a limited period of time be cautious) Look on Companies House website to find out how long a company has been in business (e.g. will they still be around in a few years if you have a problem with the work)We would advise caution in using traders who may ‘cold call’, reputable traders usually don’t have to cold call on customers to drum up more workBuy with Confidence (www.buywithconfidence.gov.uk) are traders who are approved by Trading Standards and we would recommend looking at this website first (these traders will not be the cheapest but they will deal with consumers fairly and they are trustworthy).
