|
We have received reports of individuals claiming to be representatives from the local council and requesting money for work allegedly required at residents' properties in Romanby, Northallerton.
Please be aware: 🔹 Council staff will not normally attend your home unannounced and demand immediate payment for works. 🔹 Do not hand over cash, bank details, or personal information to anyone you are not expecting. 🔹 Always ask for identification and verify it by contacting the council using a trusted telephone number. 🔹 If you feel pressured into making a payment, end the conversation and contact a family member, friend, or the police for advice.
Criminals often target elderly or vulnerable residents by creating a sense of urgency. Please check in on relatives, neighbours, and friends who may be at greater risk and share this warning with them.
If you have been approached by someone claiming to be from the council and asking for money, or if you have any concerns about suspicious callers in your area, please report it to North Yorkshire Police via 101. If a crime is in progress or you feel threatened, call 999 immediately.
Stay vigilant and remember: Stop, Check, and Verify before making any payment.
