I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Road safety and road traffic offences including speeding, driving uninsured tax, using mobile phone no seatbelt whilst driving or Drink/drug driving, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. During the early hours of 1 September 2026, our Roads Policing Team responded to reports of a vehicle being driven in an anti-social manner within the Sixfields car park.
The manner of driving was not only anti-social but may also have placed both the occupants of the vehicle and members of the public at risk.
The vehicle was located by officers and, following changes introduced under the Crime and Policing Act 2026, Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002 no longer requires police to issue a prior warning before seizing a vehicle. As a result, the vehicle was immediately seized on this occasion.
The driver was also reported for driving without due care and attention and inconsiderate driving, and further enquiries are ongoing.
Northamptonshire Police remains committed to tackling anti-social driving and the dangers associated with car cruises. Additional measures, including the Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) introduced by West Northamptonshire Council, have been implemented to help address this behaviour.
As part of our ongoing efforts to tackle car cruises and anti-social driving, we have recently sent letters to the registered keepers of 16 vehicles that were identified as being present at a car cruise in Sixfields car park. The letters remind recipients of the restrictions in place under the PSPO and the powers available to police under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act, helping to ensure those attending such events are aware of the potential consequences of anti-social driving and related breaches of the PSPO.
Car cruises involving anti-social or dangerous driving can present a significant risk of injury. Vehicles being driven at speed or manoeuvred unpredictably in areas occupied by spectators can quickly result in collisions, loss of control and serious consequences.

If you witness anti-social, careless or dangerous driving and have captured the incident on video, such as dashcam, helmet camera or CCTV footage, you can report it through Operation Snap. Operation Snap allows members of the public to submit video evidence of driving offences directly to Northamptonshire Police, where it will be reviewed by specialist officers and may lead to enforcement action.
To submit footage through Operation Snap, you must be willing to provide a witness statement and attend court if required. Footage should not be uploaded to social media before submission, as this may affect any subsequent legal proceedings.
