In recent days there have been a number of reports of the illegal use of fireworks across the ward with incidents reported near Vincent Square and to the southern end of the ward. The team is alert to this development and aware that it has a significant negative impact on residents and is of course, potentially very dangerous. The setting off of fireworks in most public places is illegal as is their purchase by anyone under the age of 18. No fireworks can be used after 11pm or before 7am with exceptions for Bonfire night, Diwali, New Year’s Eve and the Chinese New Year. Illegal use of fireworks can result in imprisonment or a fine. If you hear or see fireworks being set off near your home please do report it to the police. As Autumn approaches the ward team will be conducting focused patrols as part of our annual Autumn Nights deployment. Supressing the illegal use of fireworks is an important component of these patrols. In the meantime we will devote additional presence in affected areas in the evenings in order to deter and identify those responsible. | ||
