This week, Weymouth Neighbourhood Policing Team has continued to work proactively with partner agencies, local businesses and residents to address the issues that matter most to our communities. Activity has included enforcement action, engagement with young people, safeguarding work and partnership problem-solving to tackle antisocial behaviour.

Enforcement Activity

A male who is persistently offending in Weymouth was arrested for breaching a Section 35 Dispersal Notice, a fail-to-appear warrant and the theft of alcohol from a local shop. The offender was subsequently charged with theft and remanded to court in relation to the outstanding warrant.

Working with Communities and Partners

Officers attended the Weymouth College Freshers' Fair to meet the new intake of students arriving at the college, they were given relevant crim prevention advice, reassurance, crime and an opportunity for students to engage with their local policing team about matters important to them.

The team also visited residents on Portland following reports of antisocial behaviour, listening to concerns and working with partners to identify solutions.

Following ongoing concerns regarding antisocial behaviour at a property on Portland, the Neighbourhood Policing Team worked with partners to have the site boarded up, preventing unauthorised access and reducing opportunities for young people to enter the premises.

Antisocial Behaviour

Following reports of antisocial behaviour in Weymouth town centre, officers conducted enquiries and issued four dispersal notices to young people involved. There will be followup partnership work to deter them from further anti-social behaviour.

The team also attended an ASB Trigger Meeting regarding a property in Chickerell, working alongside partner agencies to review concerns and identify further actions to provide long term solution

Safeguarding

Officers attended the Chesil Contextual Safeguarding Meeting, working with schools and partner organisations to share information and support the safeguarding of young people across the area.

Partnership Working

The Neighbourhood Policing Team attended meetings relating to the Day Time Economy, collaborating with partners to address issues affecting Weymouth town centre and improve the experience of those who live, work and visit the area.
