⚠️ PLEASE BE AWARE - Increase in Rogue Traders Across Trafford |
||
|
We have recently seen an increase in reports of rogue traders posing as gardeners and tree surgeons operating throughout the Trafford area.
How They Operate
These individuals typically approach residents claiming they are carrying out work on a neighbouring property and have noticed that your trees or hedges have: They offer to carry out the work immediately and will often negotiate on price, reducing an initial quote to make the offer appear more attractive, sometimes for as little as £30.
The Sting in the Tail
Once the branches have been cut, the traders demand payment but leave all cuttings and waste on the property. When challenged, they will claim that removal of the waste was not included in the original price and will then demand an extortionate additional fee for disposal. In some reported cases, residents have been told they must pay £100 per kilo for the removal of the branches. This leaves victims feeling pressured into paying significantly more than originally agreed.
How to Protect Yourself
✅ Do not agree to doorstep offers from unsolicited traders. ✅ Obtain written quotes from reputable, insured contractors. ✅ Ask for references and check online reviews before agreeing to any work. ✅ Ensure that the full scope of the work, including waste removal, is clearly agreed in advance. ✅ If you feel pressured, close the conversation and seek advice from a trusted family member, friend, or neighbour.
Report Suspicious Activity
If you encounter suspected rogue traders or witness suspicious behaviour, please report it via: 📞 101 (or 999 if a crime is in progress)
Working Together
Please share this information with family members, neighbours, and particularly those who may be more vulnerable to doorstep crime. Increased awareness is one of the most effective ways to prevent residents becoming victims of rogue traders.
