Putney Neighbourhood Policing Team Road Safety Operation

Dear East Putney Residents,

On Saturday 12 September 2026, officers from the Putney Neighbourhood Policing Team conducted a proactive roadside stop check operation on the borders of East and West Putney Wards, targeting road safety issues and identifying offences that put other road users at risk.

During the operation, officers stopped and checked 31 vehicles.

As a result:

🚗 1 driver dealt with for driving without insurance

🚌 1 driver reported for driving a minibus without the correct driving licence entitlement

🛞 1 driver dealt with for driving a vehicle with two defective tyres

🌿 1 passenger issued with a Community Resolution for possession of cannabis

🏍️ 1 motorcycle rider reported for using a defective vehicle

👶 1 driver reported for carrying a child who was not wearing a seat belt

👓 1 driver reported after failing an eyesight check. Officers became concerned when the driver struck a traffic cone whilst entering the stop site and was subsequently unable to read a vehicle registration plate at the prescribed distance.

In addition, two vehicles were issued with immediate mechanical prohibitions due to serious defects, meaning they were not permitted to be driven away from the scene until the faults had been rectified.

While the vast majority of motorists stopped were driving legally and responsibly, these results highlight the importance of proactive enforcement activity in keeping our roads safe. Defective vehicles, uninsured drivers, licence offences and poor driver eyesight all present significant risks to the public.

The Putney Neighbourhood Team will continue to carry out intelligence-led operations across the ward to improve road safety, reduce harm and respond to concerns raised by local residents.
