Glossop SNT - Community Speed Watch Event - Local Priorities 'Speeding Traffic Update'

Today the event was held at the above location between 2 55 pm and 3.55 pm - with the speed limit being 30 mph.

On this occasion a total 370 vehicles went by the team during the event  today - with 11 of those vehicles being recorded as speeding above 35 Mph. - the highest being recorded at 44 mph.

Speeding has been identified by the community in Hadfield as one of their Policing Priorities for the area. The SNT would like to say thank you to the community from Hadfield for identifying their concerns regarding speeding, particularly at this location.

The SNT would like to say thank you to the 3 volunteers who gave up their free time today, to try and make our roads that bit safer and in helping to reduce speeding in their community.

What is Community Speed ?

Community Speed Watch is a national volunteer-led initiative supported by local police forces to monitor vehicle speeds and improve road safety in residential areas.

Volunteers: Local residents receive training from the police or safety partnerships on using approved speed-detection equipment.

Monitoring:  Groups record the speeds, makes, and registration numbers of vehicles exceeding local limits at pre-approved safe roadside locations. 

Advisory Letters: Vehicle details are checked and registered keepers are sent an educational warning letter rather than an immediate fine.

Enforcement: Repeat offenders or excessive speeds are flagged to local policing teams for targeted enforcement or potential prosecution.
