Latest neighbourhood policing priorities for Borehamwood and Elstree

Burglaries, off-road bikes and speeding are just some of the latest neighbourhood policing priorities announced by the Hertsmere Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT), following feedback from the public.

NPTs work alongside partners to focus on solving long and short-term neighbourhood issues, such as anti-social behaviour, theft, speeding and drug-related crime.

Using an analysis of data, they set local policing priorities every four months, to provide a specific focus on the issues which are currently causing the most concern to residents locally. Feedback from members of the public also plays a vital part.

Residents will see their dedicated team of PCs and PCSOs working alongside partners to address the agreed priorities below, through an increased police presence, engagement events and targeted enforcement.

Whilst there will be a focus on the local priorities, officers will continue to respond to daily business as usual, as well as forcewide priorities and any emerging issues which require more immediate action.

Alongside the NPT, Hertsmere is also policed by officers who respond to emergency calls, a team of detectives who investigate crimes such as burglary, robbery and assault, and specialist units who work to tackle issues such as acquisitive crime and domestic abuse. In addition, they can call on officers from central teams which work countywide.

Inspector Rachael Robertson, who leads the Hertsmere NPT, said: “I’d like to thank everybody who took the time to share their views. Where appropriate, some priorities will remain the same until we are satisfied the issue has been completely dealt with. 

“We’ll be working closely with partners across the borough to tackle these priorities. We know there was lots of feedback around fly-tipping so this will be a priority, working with Hertsmere Borough Council. I would like to remind residents that where they see a fly-tip in action, this should be reported to police. If the fly-tip is already there or the offender has gone, then this should be reported to the council.

Below is an overview of work that was carried out to tackle the previous set of priorities in Borehamwood and Elstree:

Drug possession offences reduced by more than 25% in the period of 1 May 2026 and 31 August 2026, compared the same period in 2025.

More than 20 people were either charged, issued a court summons or dealt with by a Community Resolution. 

Officers completed a number of warrants in relation to drugs supply which have resulted in arrests.

A closure order was granted for an address in the Cowley Hill ward linked to drugs supply. Further warrants to tackle drugs supply are planned and closure orders will be sought where applicable.

Officers were joined by a Crime Prevention Officer and teamed up with Hertsmere Borough Council for an engagement event to speak to those affected by the issue. Several concerns were reported and responded to.

Officers have worked with the local schools, partners and businesses to identify young people causing issues and to divert them from ASB and crime.

Officers have assisted Trading Standards with action at shops that have been selling illegal vapes to children.

Multiple out of court resolutions have been issued to young people for shoplifting and possession of cannabis.
