Here’s an update on burglary locally. Burglary Prevention Advice from Your Local Police Team
As we move into the autumn months and daylight hours become shorter, opportunistic burglaries can increase as offenders take advantage of darker evenings and properties that appear unoccupied.
We would like to remind residents to take a few simple steps to help protect their homes and belongings:
• Ensure all doors and windows are locked, even when you are at home or only leaving for a short time.
• Use timer switches on lights to give the impression that someone is home when the property is empty.
• Keep keys, handbags, wallets, and car keys out of sight and away from doors, windows, and letterboxes.
• Consider installing security lighting, CCTV, a video doorbell, or a house alarm where possible.
• Keep valuables out of sight from windows and mark property with a forensic marking system where available.
• Secure sheds, garages, and side gates, as these can contain valuable tools and equipment often targeted by thieves.
• Avoid advertising holidays or time away from home on social media until after you return.
• Ask trusted neighbours to keep an eye on your property if you are away and to report anything suspicious.
If you see suspicious activity in your neighbourhood, please report it to police. In an emergency, always call 999. For non-emergency matters, contact police on 101 or online.
Working together as a community is one of the best ways to deter crime and keep our neighbourhoods safe.
