E-Scooters, E-Bikes and Scramblers - Proactive Action

Hello I wanted to update you in relation to proactive police action in relation to the use of E-Scooters, E-Bikes (Those that do not require pedalling to travel) and E-Scramblers across the PSNI Newry Mourne and Down District.

These vehicles are classified as motor vehicles, but cannot be insured, therefore they cannot be used lawfully on roads, footpaths and other public spaces.  In addition there have been a number of incidents involving these vehicles with either riders or other members of the public have been injured.

Over the past weekend we have seized the following vehicles and removed them from our streets:

25 E-Scooters

3 E-Scramblers

1 Petrol Scrambler

3 Uninsured cars

20 Boxes of illegal fireworks.

In addition we have detected two disqualified drivers who had been previously banned from driving but thought it a good idea to keep doing so.

We want to reassure you that if we see these vehicles on a road or in any other public place we will seize and remove them.
