Three charged following robbery in Ware

Following enquiries into a robbery in Ware, three people have been charged in connection with the investigation.

Patrick Maughan, aged 32, of Mayfield Road, London, and Michael Mongan, aged 36, of Setchel Drove, Cottenham, have both been charged with robbery. Both are remanded into custody ahead of their next court appearance at St Albans Crown Court on 20 October.

Grace Brownlie, aged 24, of Errol Street, London has been charged with assisting an offender. She has since been released on court bail ahead of appearing at Stevenage Magistrates Court on 21 October.

A fourth man was arrested in connection with the incident and has since been released on bail while enquiries continue.

The charges relate to an incident on the evening of Wednesday 5 August, when a white Volkswagen Caddy van was allegedly intercepted on Fanhams Hall Road. The occupants were reportedly removed from the vehicle and assaulted by a group of people, some of whom were wearing surgical masks, before the van was driven away.

The vehicle was recovered a short time later on the B1004, south of Babb's Green, and a significant amount of cash was reported stolen from inside.

Detective Inspector Sam Alcock, from the Crime and Intelligence Command, said: "I am pleased to be able to update the community that three individuals have now been charged in connection with this investigation.

"Our enquiries remain ongoing and a number of lines of investigation are still being pursued.

"While we believe this was a targeted incident and there is no wider threat to the public, we understand incidents of this nature can cause concern within the community.

“I would like to thank everyone who reported information and I hope this update provides reassurance that we are committed to thoroughly investigating serious offences and bringing those responsible before the courts."
