Operation Rimini delivered a positive day of enforcement, engagement and high-visibility policing activity across Stockport town centre.

Enforcement Activity

4 arrests completed during the operation:

1 youth arrested in connection with a previous affray incident at the Chestergate, interviewed and released on bail.
1 youth arrested for criminal damage, resolved through a Community Resolution.
1 adult male arrested for five theft offences from Boots stores, amounting to losses in the thousands of pounds. The offender was charged and remanded to court, with a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) application pending at the next hearing on 12 October ahead of sentencing.
1 adult female arrested following a stop search relating to theft, dealt with by way of an out-of-court disposal (Community Resolution).

Stop Search Activity

7 stop searches conducted.

2 positive outcomes achieved.

Knife Crime Prevention

The knife arch was deployed at Stockport Interchange, funded through the Home Office Knife Crime Concentration Fund. The initiative supports efforts to reduce knife crime across the area and was delivered by Neighbourhood Officers working in partnership with TfGM TravelSafe and Enforcement Officers (TSEOs).

Community Engagement

Engagement stalls were hosted at The Stockroom and near Stockport Interchange, where officers:

Promoted and signed residents up to Bee in the Loop.
Provided crime prevention advice relating to the darker evenings.
Conducted bicycle marking and security advice.

Partnership Working

A partnership briefing was held at the Redrock Cinema Complex, bringing together partners to coordinate activity and share intelligence.

High-Visibility Patrols

High-visibility patrols were conducted throughout the town centre by officers from:

Transport Unit
Mounted Unit

The operation demonstrated a strong balance of enforcement, prevention and engagement activity, alongside effective partnership working aimed at reducing crime, increasing public confidence and maintaining a visible policing presence within Stockport town centre.

By combining enforcement activity with public engagement, we are able to tackle the issues that matter most to our communities, from shop theft and anti-social behaviour to serious violence and knife crime.

The arrests and positive stop search outcomes demonstrate our commitment to identifying and dealing with offenders, while our engagement work helps build stronger relationships with residents, businesses and visitors to the town centre.

The deployment of the knife arch at Stockport Interchange is another important step in our efforts to reduce knife crime and make our public spaces safer. Working alongside our partners at TfGM, we will continue to use every tool available to prevent violence, protect the public and ensure Stockport remains a safe place to live, work and visit.’
