Hello All We’ve had a few notable incidents this week involving personal theft & robbery in Custom House. Please read on for the details and locations Assault 18/09/2026 – Edwin Street: A local resident was followed, pushed, and threatened by an individual. Police conducted a search of the area and located the returning to his property, where he was safely detained and arrested.22/09/2026 – Mortlake Road: A resident was unexpectedly confronted and assaulted by the driver of a van after parking their car. It remains unclear what triggered the altercation, and enquiries are ongoing.Criminal Damage 17/09/2026 – Varley Road: A local resident was visited at his home address by three males accusing him of damaging their vehicle. After the resident temporarily left the property, he returned to find damage to the glass panels in his front door.Drug Offences 19/09/2026 – Gresham Road: Officers conducted a proactive stop-and-search on a BMW. Evidence of cannabis dealing was uncovered, and the driver was arrested.Theft & Phone Snatching 17/09/2026 – Berwick Street: A group of 5 to 6 youths snatched a mobile phone from a pedestrian's hand before fleeing on foot towards the Post Office on Prince Regent Lane.18/09/2026 – Prince Regent Lane: A cyclist-enabled phone snatching occurred on the street.23/09/2026 – Freemasons Road: A passenger had their phone snatched directly from their hand while traveling on a bus.23/09/2026 – Freemasons Road: A bag was stolen from a vehicle that had been left unlocked. We gently remind everyone to double-check their car locks, even if leaving the vehicle for a brief moment.21/09/2026 – Plymouth Road: A charging cable was cut and stolen from a property.Robbery 21/09/2026 – Prince Regent Lane (approx. 1:00 PM): A resident was approached by two individuals shortly after using a cash machine. The suspects took his bank card and used it to make a small fraudulent purchase. While the victim has chosen not to pursue formal prosecution, we advise extra vigilance when using local ATMs.21/09/2026 – Cundy Park (approx. 8:30 PM): A group of teenagers assaulted a man and stole his mobile phone.We will be spending all our spare time in P.R Lane and Freemasons over the coming weeks. The single most valuable street robbery in British history occurred on 2 May 1990, when a courier named John Goddard was mugged at knifepoint on a quiet side street in the City of London. Goddard was carrying a briefcase containing 301 bearer bonds worth a staggering £291.9 million (equivalent to roughly £720 million today).The Aftermath: What seemed like a simple street mugging turned out to be a massive international conspiracy involving the New York Mafia and Colombian drug cartels. An operation by the City of London Police and the FBI eventually successfully recovered 299 of the 301 bonds. The prime suspect for the actual mugging was murdered. |
