New Neighbourhood priorities now set

This update outlines the progress made on the community priorities set for your area by the Local Policing Inspector Craig, in collaboration with the Safer Neighbourhood Supervisors- Sgt Adams and PCSO Supervisor Wallington-Waite. Community priorities are reviewed and set on a quarterly basis, guiding the focus of the Safer Neighbourhood Team’s activity, in this update, you’ll find:

• A summary of the previous priorities

• The actions taken and outcomes achieved

• The new priorities for the upcoming quarter

New priorities are determined by analysing local crime trends and incorporating feedback from you, the community, through engagement events, surveys and direct contact.

The previous priorities for your area were:

• Anti-social behaviour (ASB), including anti-social vehicle use.

• Serious acquisitive crime.

Actions Taken:

For ASB including Antisocial vehicle use we have –

Completed foot/ bike and vehicle patrols around known hotspot locations

Worked closely with the ASB officer at SDDC and YET relating to those youths’ causing issues in the area

Reported to court 3 Males for driving offences and seized their vehicles, 1 in Dracan Village and 2 in Drakelow

Following a pursuit resulting in occupants decamping the vehicle in Caudwell driver located and arrested for driving and drug offences. Separately another male tested positive at roadside drug test.

Speed checks have been completed in July and august - x2 drivers dealt with for no seat belts, 1 for failing to stop, 3 drivers for speeding, 1 driver for contravening a directional arrow.

A rider of a bike in Drakelow has been driver dealt with for Careless riding, false plates, no tread, fail to wear helmet, no licence, no insurance and no MOT.

ASB letters have been sent the parents of 4 youths causing ASB in Dracan Village area and Drakelow area.

The Community speed watch teams have been supported in Netherseal, Overseal and Coton in the elms area.

A joint walkabout took place with Midland Heart housing officer and Pcso Thompson around Dracan village addressing any reported ASB

Stop searches have located x2 youths with cannabis

A Community Protection notice was issued in Linton to a person’s causing issues towards other residents

SNT once again supported the Pass wide and Slow event in Overseal.

In relation to Serious Acquisitive crime, we have:

Provided Crime prevention advice and security items though Community catch up events at Overseal, Coton in the elms and Rosliston attended by PCSO Thompson and sent messages out through our Derbyshire Alert messaging service

Completed foot/ bike and vehicle patrols around known hotspot locations

Held a tool marking event and crime prevention events throughout the area

SNT have conducted targeted night-time patrols

Following a review the new priorities have now been set, they are: -

Tackling ASB on Dracan estate.

Speeding

Serious acquisitive crime

Encouraging and educating on Crime Prevention relevant to the area

In relation to Serious Acquisitive Crime, we will:

• Continue high visibility and plain clothes patrols in hotspot areas.

• Share crime prevention advice through social media, community events and Derbyshire Alert, raising awareness of current issues.

• Promote security measures such as tool marking, steering locks and CCTV.

• Work with partners including local authorities, bordering police forces and national policing teams to share intelligence and prevent offending.

To help educate relating to crime prevention relevant to the area we will: -

• Send out fortnightly messages around Crime prevention, monitoring reports made to Police and partners to identifying any crime trends and tailor our advice to these.

• Promote security measures such as tool marking, steering locks and CCTV.

• Publicise successful interventions to reassure the community and encourage reporting.

• Hold crime prevention events throughout the area.

Around Speeding we will: -

• Conduct regular high visibility and plains clothes patrols in known hotspot areas taking proactive enforcement if offences located.

• Continue to support existing Community Speed watch schemes and encourage residents to volunteer/ set up new schemes in areas of concern

• Work with our Roads Policing Unit for joint operations where necessary

• Share updates via Derbyshire Alert and social media

• We will conduct speed checks and liaise with our CREST over areas of concern https://www.crestderbyshire.org/

To tackle ASB on the Dracan Estate we will: -

• Work closely with the Housing association or Council if the ASB being caused is happening at an address of a tenant of either.

• Conduct regular high visibility and plains clothes patrols in known hotspot areas taking proactive enforcement if offences located

• Publicise successful interventions to reassure the community and encourage reporting

• Work closely with our Youth Engagement team and ASB officer at SDDC to tackle any youth related ASB utilising an incremental approach using ASB legislation and Education.

• Continue Community engagement including Joint engagement with housing officers in the area to encourage residents to attend and report issues.

• Provide talks around ASB and consequences of ASB to pupils at local schools.
