Do you know anyone living with dementia? Have you heard of the Herbert protocol?
If you support a family member or friend who is living with dementia, taking a little time to prepare important information now could make a real difference if they ever go missing.
The Herbert Protocol allows families, friends and carers to record useful information about a person in advance. This can include a recent photograph, medication, contact details, familiar places they may visit and other information that could help officers locate them safely.
The form is kept somewhere safe and, should the person ever go missing, it can be quickly provided to police. This means officers can access important information straight away, at a time when every minute matters.
The protocol is named after George Herbert, a Normandy veteran who lived with dementia.
