Darker Nights
As we head into the autumn and winter months, residents are encouraged to take a few simple steps to help keep themselves, their homes and their vehicles safe. With darker evenings and poorer weather conditions, make sure your home is secure by keeping doors and windows locked, even when you are at home. Use outdoor lighting where possible and report any suspicious activity in your area.
In the Lees and Springhead area The current crime patterns show incidents of theft from motor vehicles over the last few months . Residents are reminded to remove valuables from sight, lock their vehicles and ensure they are secure whenever left unattended. Parking in well-lit areas can also help reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime.
In the Gotton area Blue Bins have been taken and burnt out Residents in the Grotton area are being advised to remain vigilant following a number of incidents involving blue bins being stolen and later found burnt out on Grotton Park over the last month.
This appears to have become a recurring issue, with further reports recently received. Residents are encouraged to take steps to secure their blue bins where possible and avoid leaving them out any longer than necessary after collection. If you have witnessed anyone taking bins, acting suspiciously in the area, or if you have CCTV, doorbell camera or dashcam footage that may assist, please report this to Greater Manchester Police via 101.
If you are out walking, cycling or exercising during the evenings, wear bright or reflective clothing to make yourself more visible to other road users and pedestrians. Where possible, use well-lit routes and remain aware of your surroundings. Please take extra care on the roads during poor weather conditions. Rain, fog and wet leaves can make roads and pavements slippery and reduce visibility. Allow extra time for journeys and take care when driving, cycling or crossing roads. Please also look out for elderly or vulnerable neighbours during periods of bad weather to ensure they are safe and have everything they need.
If you witness suspicious behaviour or have concerns about crime in your area, please report it to Greater Manchester Police via 101, or call 999 in an emergency. By working together and remaining vigilant, we can help keep our communities safe throughout the darker autumn and winter months.
