Update - Closure order
Residents may remember our post in June about the Closure Order granted at addresses in Green Street. We're pleased to share that the order has now been extended for a further three months.
At Brighton Magistrates Court on 14 September, police successfully secured a further three-month extension to the Closure Order at an HMO in Green Street. The order prohibits both former residents, as well as any new occupants, from entering the property.
Police Community Support Officer Williams who gathered the evidence, community impact statements and applied to the Court for the extension said,
“This outcome gives residents in close proximity to the address the continued respite from anti-social behaviour that they deserve.
"It also stands as a clear message to tenants that persistent anti-social behaviour can result in action being taken, including the use of closure powers, and to landlords that they need to take appropriate measures to address issues linked to their properties.
"Where necessary, police and partners will continue to use these powers to protect local communities.”
Summer of action We've been working alongside local businesses to tackle shoplifting through targeted patrols, proactive arrests and close partnership working with retailers and staff. Together, we can help make our town a safer place to work, shop and visit. Watch some of the highlights from our Summer of action online here.
Autumn garden security With October here and the colder months approaching, now is a good-time for a quick garden security check.
If you’re putting away tools, don’t forget other equipment and any high-value items that no longer need to be left outside.
Remember too to securely store ladders and anything else that could help someone gain access to your property.
Don't forget to:
• Lock sheds, garages and outbuildings – use good quality locks, weatherproof padlocks, ensure doors and windows can be properly secured • Check gates, bolts and locks – check side gates close properly, locks are working and any damaged fencing or access points are repaired • Store tools and machinery securely - garden tools, power tools, bicycles, lawn mowers, or any other equipment that could be valuable to thieves or may also be used to force entry • Put away ladders and climbing aids - ladders, bins, garden furniture and similar items can make it easier for someone to access upper windows or fences • Remove unnecessary valuables from outside - items such as bicycles, garden machinery, patio heaters and outdoor electrical equipment should be stored securely if they are no longer being used regularly
Taking a few simple steps now can reduce opportunities for theft and help keep your home, garden and belongings secure throughout the coming Autumn and Winter months.
