Dear Resident
You are receiving this because you live in the vicinity of a burglary that occurred on Washington Street, this occurred on Thursday 1st October between 1945hrs and 2145hrs and the method of attack was by snapping the cylinder lock allowing entry.
Between the times and date stated above, two unknown suspects wearing dark clothing and balaclavas approached an end-terrace property. The suspects accessed the rear garden by jumping over a garden wall before using an unknown implement to snap the rear door lock. They then forced and damaged the rear sash jammer to gain entry. Once inside, the suspects secured the front door from within using the sash jammer and carried out an untidy search of the property. They stole a black handbag and a large amoutn of cash before leaving on foot via the rear door.
Firstly if you have CCTV or a doorbell camera please check it: Thursday 1st October between 1930hrs and 2200hrs to check if you had any activations.
Secondly if you have a door with a cylinder lock (composite or UPVC doors mainly) please check the lock.
As a precaution, please check that your door locks are secure and correctly fitted. We recommend anti-snap locks with a 3 Star rating, certified to either TS007 or SS312 standards. These locks are available from many locksmiths and security providers. Whilst we do not wish to alarm residents, it is always worthwhile reviewing your home security and reporting anything that seems suspicious. If you have any information regarding this or any other burglary, please contact us on 101. Thank you for helping to keep our communities safe.
