🚜🐴🦇 Dorset Police Rural Crime Team Weekly Update

Our officers have been busy supporting rural communities across Dorset and beyond, tackling crime, safeguarding animal welfare and protecting our countryside.

🦇 Wildlife Crime A 79-year-old man from West Dorset has received a Community Resolution after admitting responsibility for the destruction of a bat roost. As part of the resolution, he has agreed to make a £500 financial contribution to the Bat Conservation Trust and undertake additional mitigation measures to address the harm caused.

🎯 Poaching Patrols Officers carried out follow-up enquiries and crime prevention visits in the Sturminster Newton area following reports of poaching activity. We continue to engage with local communities and landowners to prevent rural crime and gather intelligence.

🚗 Stolen Vehicle Recovered Working alongside Wiltshire Police, officers assisted in recovering a stolen vehicle which has now been returned to its owner.

🚛 Trailer Seizure A trailer has been seized on behalf of Thames Valley Police as part of an ongoing investigation. Enquiries indicate the current holder purchased the trailer in good faith. Investigations remain ongoing.

🐴 Abandoned Pony Rehomed Officers assisted the owner of a field where a pony had been abandoned. Following enquiries, a four-day notice in accordance with the relevant legislation was served on the pony's owner. After the notice expired, ownership transferred to the field owner and arrangements have now been made for the pony to be responsibly rehomed, ensuring its continued welfare and care.

📄 Investigation Update Three suspects have been interviewed in connection with a complex ongoing investigation. A file has now been submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service for a charging decision.

🚜 Plant & Machinery Theft Following the theft of high-value plant and machinery in East Dorset, officers conducted area searches while the incident was unfolding. Further enquiries have since been carried out with neighbouring Police forces to progress the investigation.

🤝 We would like to thank local residents, landowners and partner agencies for their continued support. Information from the public plays a vital role in tackling rural crime and protecting Dorset's communities, wildlife and livestock.
