BURGLARY PREVENTION AND COMMUNITY SAFETY |
||
|
We are aware of a recent increase in residential burglaries across the North Area BCU between Friday 2 October and Saturday 3 October. At this stage, we believe a number of these offences may be linked. We understand the concern this will cause residents and want to reassure our communities that tackling burglary remains a priority.
The Metropolitan Police is actively investigating these offences and pursuing multiple lines of enquiry to identify and apprehend those responsible. Additional patrols are being conducted in affected areas to provide reassurance, increase police visibility and deter further offending.
Burglary is often opportunistic. An insecure door, open window, or poorly secured side entrance can provide offenders with an opportunity to gain access to a property. We are working closely with our partners and local communities to prevent burglary, identify those responsible, and keep our neighbourhoods safe.
How You Can Help Protect Your Home
🔒 Secure It - Lock doors and windows, even when you are at home or in the garden. Ensure gates, sheds and other access points are secure. 💡 Light It - Consider installing security lighting around entrances, pathways and rear gardens. 👀 Protect It - Keep valuables, vehicle keys and important documents out of sight. Consider CCTV, alarms or video doorbells to enhance security. 🏠 Make Your Home Look Occupied - Use timer switches for lights and arrange for post to be collected if you are away from home. 🤝 Look Out for Each Other - Get to know your neighbours and support local Neighbourhood Watch and community safety initiatives. 📞 Report It - Information from our communities is vital in helping us identify patterns of offending and those responsible.
Please report any suspicious activity, vehicles or individuals promptly.
If you have any information that could assist our enquiries, please contact your local Neighbourhood Policing Team, call 101, or report online via the Metropolitan Police website. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have CCTV, Ring doorbell, dashcam or other video footage that could assist our investigations. Please review any footage covering the relevant period and contact police if you identify suspicious activity or individuals acting suspiciously.
In an emergency, or if a crime is in progress, always call 999.
We will continue to work closely with our partners and local communities and will provide updates where appropriate.
