Dear Resident,
We are aware of ongoing concerns within the Jones Hill area regarding a vehicle parked on the public highway.
Officers have reviewed the circumstances, and, at this time, there is no evidence that the vehicle concerned is being parked unlawfully. Whilst residents may not agree with where the vehicle is parked, parking on a public road where no restrictions apply is not, in itself, an offence.
Unfortunately, what began as a disagreement regarding parking has escalated. Reports have been received of repeated horn sounding, abusive language, social media activity and behaviour directed towards the occupants of a local address. Crimes relating to harassment have been recorded and enquiries remain ongoing.
Residents are reminded that dissatisfaction with a neighbour's lawful actions does not justify behaviour which may cause alarm, harassment or distress to others. Swearing at residents, deliberately targeting individuals, encouraging others to do so, or engaging in anti-social behaviour can constitute criminal offences.
Neighbourhood Policing Officers have been engaging with local residents to provide advice and prevent matters from escalating further. We would encourage anyone involved to consider the impact their actions may be having on others, particularly children who have been exposed to this ongoing dispute.
Where offences are identified, officers may: Conduct criminal investigations.Invite individuals to attend a voluntary interview.Consider arrest where lawful and necessary.Issue anti-social behaviour interventions and warnings.Seize vehicles being used in a manner causing alarm, distress or annoyance where the legal grounds exist to do so.Pursue further enforcement action where evidence supports it.We ask all residents to remain respectful of one another and allow any concerns regarding highways or parking matters to be addressed through the appropriate channels rather than through direct confrontation or social media campaigns. Kind regards
PC James Antill Peterborough South Neighbourhood Policing Team
