I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Road safety issues (Speeding), which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. π¦ Community Speedwatch β Making Roads Safer Kent Police runs Community Speedwatch, a volunteer-led initiative focused on reducing speeding and improving safety. What is Speedwatch? π₯ Local volunteers, trained by Kent Police, monitor speeds at approved sites (20, 30, or 40 mph zones) using certified equipment. π Details of speeding vehicles are securely logged for 12 months. Repeat or excessive offenders may receive advisory lettersβand in some cases, personal visits from officers. Important: Speedwatch is educational, not enforcement. No fines or penalty points are issued directly, but the data helps target police action and inform road safety improvements. β
Does it work? Yes! Over 90% of drivers recorded speeding once are not seen again within 12 months, and overall speeding reduces in communities over time. π Want to help? If you can spare an hour a week, join us! π www.kent.police.uk/speedwatch In recent days, 2 separate arrests have been made in relation to road safety issues within Sheppey East.
On 09/10/26 officers were called to a report of a male causing a disturbance. Whilst officers were en-route the male drove off in a vehicle. The vehicle and male were subsequently located and he was arrested on suspicion of multiple driving offences. He has since been charged with failing to co-operate with a preliminary test, failing to provide a blood sample for analysis, driving without insurance, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and driving a vehicle without an MOT.
On 10/10/26 officers were proactively patrolling and attempted to stop a vehicle. It failed to stop and a pursuit was authorised resulting in the suspect vehicle crashing into roadside barriers and the driver running away. Following a foot chase the driver was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance and being concerned in the supply of a controlled drug. He remains in custody at this time.
