Jog On in Alexandra Park |

Bounds Green officers took part in an Operation called Jog On to tackle street based harassment & yesterday we ran the Park Run at Alexandra Palace to begin the initiative in Haringey. The idea of the Operation is for plain clothes officers to run whilst looking out for any untoward behaviour, with additional officers nearby to assist if any harassment should occur. We are really excited about this initiative and are focused on tackling Violence Against Women & Girls (VAWG) across the ward and wider borough as one of our priorities.
WHAT IS JOG ON? The Harassment of women and girls whilst running has been identified as a National issue and concern. Runner’s World Magazine highlighted from its survey that 60% of female runners had experienced harassment. A number of female runners have identified concerns around feeling unsafe & not wanting to run after dark. Male runners also provided examples of harassment they had experienced and were appalled by what they had witnessed and fully understood why females feel scared. There is a clear misunderstanding and generally these behaviours have become the accepted norm. Through continually highlighting this behaviour as unacceptable through Jog On initiatives, we hope to educate people that it is unacceptable and encourage people to report this type of behaviour.
