NATIONAL HATE CRIME AWARENESS WEEK 2026

NATIONAL HATE CRIME AWARENESS WEEK 2026

#NoPlaceForHate | This week is National Hate Crime Awareness Week, and Staffordshire Police is encouraging everyone to play their part in creating safer, more inclusive communities where everyone feels welcome and respected.

What is a hate crime?

A hate crime is a criminal offence perceived to be motivated by hostility or prejudice towards a person because of their:

• Race or ethnicity
• Religion or beliefs
• Sexual orientation
• Disability
• Transgender identity

Hate crime is not always physical. It can include threats, verbal abuse, harassment, damage to property and online abuse.

What can you do?

• Report it: If you experience or witness a hate crime, report it to Staffordshire Police.
• Speak up: Challenge prejudice safely and support anyone affected.
• Look out for others: Check in with victims and encourage them to seek help.
• Spread the message: Help friends, family and neighbours understand the impact of hate crime.

You do not have to be the victim to report a hate crime.

How to report

🌐 Report online: https://www.staffordshire.police.uk/hatecrime

📞 Call 101 for non-emergency police assistance.

🚨 Call 999 if a crime is in progress, someone is in immediate danger, or there is an immediate threat of violence.

Support is also available through Uniting Staffordshire Against Hate (USAH), which provides free and confidential information and practical and emotional support to eligible victims.

Together, we can make a difference.

Everyone deserves to feel safe in their community, free from fear, hostility and prejudice. By reporting hate crime, supporting victims and standing together against discrimination, we can help make Staffordshire a safer place for all.

No place for hate. Every community matters.
