Social Media Trend Causing Distress to Local Residents |
||
๐ Door-Kicking Social Media Trend ๐
We have recently received reports of young people kicking or banging on the doors of residential properties in the local area. Whilst some may view this as a prank, the impact on residents can be significant. This behaviour can cause fear, anxiety and distress, particularly for elderly or vulnerable people, those living alone, and families with young children. It can also result in damage to property and make people feel unsafe in their own homes.
๐จโ๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ฆ We are appealing to parents and carers to speak with their children about the consequences of taking part in these activities. What may appear to be a harmless social media challenge can have a lasting effect on members of the community and may result in police involvement, anti-social behaviour measures or criminal offences where damage is caused.
๐ค We know the vast majority of young people behave responsibly and respectfully. We ask everyone to help us prevent this behaviour by discussing the importance of treating others with respect and considering how their actions may affect neighbours and the wider community.
๐ก Everyone has the right to feel safe in their own home. By working together, we can help ensure our communities remain welcoming, safe and respectful places to live.
๐ If you experience this type of behaviour or have information about those responsible, please report it to North Yorkshire Police via 101 or online. If a crime is in progress or there is an immediate threat to life or property, call 999. | ||
