A few minutes spent securing your home, and one quick call if something doesn’t feel right, can make all the difference.
Sheds / Garages / Outbuildings We urge all residents to keep their sheds, garages & outbuildings locked at all times, especially when not in use. They often contain valuable tools, bikes, or expensive equipment that are attractive targets for thieves. 👮♂️ Crime Prevention Tips: • Use robust security padlocks or deadlocks on doors, consider a surface mounted garage door lock. • Fit an alarm system, motion sensor lighting and/ or CCTV • Keep expensive items secured inside using lockable cabinets, ground anchors, or chains. • Consider trackers for high value machinery. • Avoid leaving tools or ladders outside - they can be used to gain access to your property. • Mark valuable items with your postcode using a UV pen or property marking system. DNA marking kits can be collected from Hastings or Battle Police stations free of charge. • Register valuable equipment at https://orlo.uk/wsg5o to help police return stolen items if recovered. Let’s work together to make our sheds, garages & outbuildings as difficult to access and unattractive to criminals as possible. See or hear anything suspicious, call 101, for crime in progress, call 999 immediately.

Top Tips to Stop Vehicle Break‑Ins As your local neighbourhood policing team, we want to help you keep your vehicle, and your belongings safe. Most vehicle break‑ins are opportunistic, and small changes can make a big difference. Here are our five top tips: 1. Always lock your vehicle Even if you’re parking on your driveway, outside your home, or only leaving the car for a moment, make sure all doors, windows and the boot are locked. Offenders will try door handles looking for an easy opportunity. 2. Remove valuables, or anything that looks valuable Never leave items such as wallets, handbags, laptops, phones, tools or shopping bags in you vehicle or on display. Even a coat or empty bag can make a criminal think there’s something worth stealing inside. 3. Keep keys safe and away from doors or windows Keyless entry vehicles are particularly vulnerable. Store keys well away from the front door and consider using a signal‑blocking pouch (Faraday pouch) to prevent relay theft. 4. Park smart Choose well‑lit, busy areas whenever possible. If you have a driveway, consider using outdoor lighting or CCTV as a deterrent. Criminals prefer dark, quiet spots where they won’t be seen. 5. Don’t leave your vehicle running unattended If you’re defrosting your car or popping back into the house, switch the engine off, take the keys with you and lock the vehicle. Many thefts happen while vehicles are left running, even for a few seconds. If you see anything suspicious, please report it to us straight away on 101.
Drink or Drug Driving? It’s NEVER worth it. ✅ Plan ahead, book a taxi or arrange a lift. Your choice. Your responsibility. Don’t risk it.
👮♂️ Supporting St Michael’s Hospice Moonlight Walk We were more than happy to support St Michael’s Hospice during their Moonlight Walk (26 September), helping to provide a visible and reassuring presence for walkers, volunteers and local residents throughout the evening. We were grateful to receive a message of thanks from St Michael’s Hospice following the event. It was a privilege to play a small part in helping such a fantastic local cause, from providing advice during the planning stages to being there on the night to support the safe running of the walk. A huge well done to everyone who took part, volunteered, organised and donated. We were more than happy to help and support an event that raises vital funds for such an important charity in our community.
Support for Local Businesses Against Crime It was great to meet local business owners and councillors at the Hastings Area Chamber of Commerce event for local businesses, hosted by the Let's Do Business Group. The event provided an excellent opportunity for Neighbourhood Policing Team officers to speak directly with the business community, discuss local concerns, and understand the issues affecting businesses across the area. We were also able to outline the work being carried out to support businesses, including targeted patrols in locations experiencing higher levels of crime and anti-social behaviour. We would like to encourage businesses to continue reporting crime and suspicious activity promptly. As Inspector Matt Chapman highlighted during the event, "If we know about it, we can address it." Reporting incidents helps us build a clearer picture of local issues, allowing us to direct resources effectively and ensure our patrols are focused where they are needed most. We remain committed to working closely with businesses, partners and the wider community to prevent crime, tackle offenders and keep Hastings a safe place to live, work and visit”
Officers from the Hastings Neighbourhood Policing Team was pleased to attend the Open Day at Hastings Mosque. It was a positive opportunity to meet members of different faith communities, listen to a range of speakers, and answer questions about local policing. These events help strengthen relationships, encourage understanding, and reinforce our commitment to working alongside all communities to keep Hastings a safe and welcoming place for everyone. Thank you to everyone who attended and took the time to speak with us.
Local officers have been carrying out regular foot patrols in Gensing, engaging with residents, businesses and community. As part of our daily patrols, we were pleased to visit St Peter’s Church on Bohemia Road, taking the opportunity to speak with members of the community, listen to concerns and build on the positive relationships that help keep our neighbourhoods strong. Being visible, approachable and connected to the communities we serve is at the heart of neighbourhood policing, and supporting local businesses and community organisations remains a key part of our role. If you see us out on patrol, please stop and say hello.
Hastings Bonfire is almost here, with celebrations taking place on 17 October. Neighbourhood Policing Teams will be out across the town alongside partner agencies to help ensure everyone can enjoy the event safely. A Section 34 Dispersal Authority will be in place, giving officers additional powers to deal with the small minority of people who may cause anti-social behaviour or disorder. Inspector Matt Chapman said: "Last year, only eight people were dispersed while crime and anti-social behaviour remained very low. The overwhelming majority of attendees celebrated responsibly, and we hope to see the same this year. Enjoy the event, look after one another, and help us keep Hastings Bonfire safe for everyone. Those intent on causing disruption can expect robust action from officers." Whether you're a regular visitor or attending for the first time, please follow the guidance of event organisers and emergency services, take care of those around you, and enjoy a fantastic evening. 🔥🎆
🚓Great evening with the Squirrels and Beavers from 3rd Hastings Scout Group during their visit to Hastings Police Station. The young visitors learned about who we are and what we do as local officers. We were asked lots of fantastic questions, and it was great to see so much curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the evening. The highlight for many was the chance to try on police uniform, explore a police vehicle, and take a closer look at some of the equipment we use every day. They also went home with colouring sheets showcasing the different roles within Sussex Police, along with their own set of Sussex Police crayons. We hope everyone enjoyed their visit as much as we enjoyed welcoming them to the station. 👮♀️😊
Rider Reported After Being Found Over the Alcohol Limit on Illegal E-Bike Local officers stopped a rider on an e-bike in Battle Road. Checks revealed the rider was unfit through excess alcohol, was driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, and was using a vehicle without insurance. He will now appear before the courts to answer these offences. The e-bike was also found to be illegal for use on the road, as it exceeded the legal power limits and could be propelled without being pedalled. As a result, the bike was seized. This is one of a number of illegal e-bikes and e-scooters seized across Hastings. Local officers have received a number of reports from residents about the dangerous manner in which similar bikes are being ridden in the area, causing concern for pedestrians and other road users. We will continue to act on concerns raised by the community and take action against illegal vehicles and those who use them irresponsibly, helping to keep our roads and public spaces safe.
Illegal E-Bike Seized on London Road Local officers stopped an e-bike on London Road after seeing it being ridden at speed. Checks found the bike had been modified to exceed the legal limit of 15.5mph, meaning it was classed as a motor vehicle and required insurance and the correct documentation to be used legally on the road. The rider was unable to provide the required documents and was issued with a Traffic Offence Report. The bike was subsequently seized. We understand that many people rely on e-bikes for transport, but when they are modified beyond the legal limit, they are no longer treated as standard e-bikes under the law. This can create significant safety risks for pedestrians, other road users and the rider themselves. We have received numerous reports from residents and businesses about concerns relating to the dangerous use of modified e-bikes on local roads and pavements. We will continue to act on this information and take appropriate action where offences are identified to help keep our communities safe.
Come and Meet Your Local Officers 👋 Your Neighbourhood Policing Team will be at Hollington Bowl, and we’d love you to pop along and say hello. Whether you have a question or concern, want to find out what your local officers are doing in the community, or simply fancy a chat, come and meet the team. 📅 Monday 9 November We look forward to seeing you there.
Your Reports Help Us Take Action After receiving multiple reports of loud music, shouting and other anti-social behaviour in the Norman Road and London Road areas, a man has now been issued with a Community Protection Notice (CPN). There’s a difference between enjoying yourself and behaviour that repeatedly disrupts residents and local businesses. This is a good example of why reporting ASB matters. Each report helps local officers understand the wider picture, gather evidence and take action where appropriate.
Supporting Our Local Businesses Yesterday, Neighbourhood officers were joined by Councillor Amanda Jobson on regular patrols around Gensing, with a particular focus on Bohemia Road, speaking with local businesses and shop staff about the issues affecting them. We know that some staff face abusive, threatening or intimidating behaviour while simply trying to do their jobs. Our focus is on tackling this type of behaviour and holding those responsible to account. We encourage anyone experiencing this type of behaviour to report it. Your reports make a difference, helping us understand what is happening locally, identify repeated problems and take action where appropriate.
