Crime Prevention Advice - Theft from your car |

Good Afternoon Resident, Most thefts from vehicles are opportunistic. Criminals often look for easy targets and will check door handles or peer through windows searching for valuables left on display. Taking a few simple precautions can significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim. 🔍 What Are Thieves Looking For? Bags, handbags and backpacks Mobile phones, tablets and laptops Wallets, purses and cash Keys and key fobs Sunglasses and other valuables Tools and equipment stored in cars or vans Even items of little value can attract attention if they are visible.
✅ How to Protect Your Vehicle Always lock your vehicle, even if you're only leaving it for a few moments. Ensure all windows, sunroofs and convertible roofs are fully secured. Remove all valuables and take them with you whenever possible. Leave your vehicle looking completely empty. Don't leave bags, coats or other items on display as they may tempt thieves. Remove sat-navs and phone holders and wipe away any marks left on the windscreen. Park in well-lit, busy locations where possible. Consider parking in areas covered by CCTV.
🚐 Protecting Tools and Work Equipment Never leave tools in vehicles overnight where possible. Use additional locks and tool safes within vans. Mark and record valuable equipment. Keep photographs and serial numbers of expensive tools and machinery.
🚨 If Your Vehicle Has Been Broken Into Report the incident to police. Take photographs of any damage and stolen property. Make a note of the location, time and any suspicious activity you may have noticed. Avoid touching disturbed areas unnecessarily, as forensic opportunities may exist. Contact your insurer if appropriate.
💙 Remember Criminals often make a decision to target a vehicle within seconds. If they can't see anything worth stealing, they're far more likely to move on. | ||
