I wanted to provide you with an update regarding ASB, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Community Safety Appeal – Arthur Jenkins Nursing Home Site
We have received reports that a large group of youths entered the former Arthur Jenkins Nursing Home site yesterday evening (14/10/2026).
This property is currently unoccupied and presents a number of significant safety risks. Entering vacant buildings can expose individuals to hazards such as unstable structures, broken glass, exposed materials, hidden trip hazards and unsafe flooring. We have also received previous reports of people climbing onto the roof of the building, creating a serious risk of falling and sustaining life-changing or potentially fatal injuries.
We understand that the main gate may have been left insecure by those responsible for managing the site, making access easier. However, this does not give permission for anyone to enter the premises. Unauthorised access to the site places individuals at risk, can lead to anti-social behaviour, and may result in criminal damage and other offences being committed.
We would ask parents and guardians to speak with their children about the dangers of entering derelict or abandoned buildings and to reinforce the importance of staying away from the site. Your support in helping to keep young people safe is greatly appreciated.
How you can help
If you witnessed any activity at the site yesterday evening, or have information that may assist our enquiries, please reply to this post.
If you have CCTV, doorbell camera footage, dashcam recordings, or any other relevant video evidence, please get in touch. We can provide a secure NICE evidence upload link if you provide your contact details.
Crime Prevention & Safety Advice
✅ Avoid entering abandoned or vacant buildings, regardless of whether gates or doors appear open. ✅ Parents should know where their children are and discuss the dangers associated with derelict sites. ✅ Report damaged fencing, insecure gates, or signs of trespassing to the relevant property owners or authorities. ✅ If you see people entering the site or engaging in anti-social behaviour, report it to police at the time so officers can attend where appropriate. ✅ Never attempt to confront large groups yourself. Prioritise your own safety and provide information to police instead.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us keep the community safe.
Tackling antisocial behaviour can be a complex issue, and one which requires input and action from more than just the police. The Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 aims to put victims first, giving power to local people and enabling professionals to find the best solutions for their local area. The act provides the police, local authorities and other local agencies with flexible tools and powers that they can use to respond quickly and effectively to antisocial behaviour. These include: - civil injunctions.
- criminal behaviour orders.
- public spaces protection orders.
- community protection notices.
- dispersal powers.
- closure powers.
The act also includes measures such as the Community Remedy and antisocial behaviour case reviews which empower victims and communities to have a say in the outcome of their reports and hold agencies to account. If you ever experience this issue or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at https://www.gwent.police.uk, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat or call the non-emergency number 101. Alternatively, you can stay 100 per cent anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their untraceable online form at crimestoppers-uk.org.
