Richmond Neighbourhood Policing: A Week in Review
This week has seen significant activity across Richmond as your local Safer Neighbourhood Teams, PCSOs, response officers and partner agencies have worked to tackle crime, anti-social behaviour and the issues that matter most to residents.
As part of the Met's commitment to delivering a New Met for London, we remain focused on visible neighbourhood policing, protecting communities, targeting offenders and building trust through meaningful action in our neighbourhoods. Friday 9th/Saturday 10th October - Preventing Anti-Social BehaviourFollowing ongoing reports of anti-social behaviour, underage drinking, drug use and the misuse of fireworks, a Section 35 Dispersal Order was authorised covering Richmond Green and Terrace Gardens throughout the weekend. Local Safer Neighbourhood officers conducted high-visibility patrols alongside response teams, whilst partners from Achieving for Children and Safe Space Richmond provided diversionary activities and support for young people, as well as providing sanctuary for vulnerable persons. The operation aimed to prevent the disorder experienced during previous weekends and ensure these popular public spaces remained safe for residents and visitors. Monday - Operation ZoridonRichmond officers, working alongside Trading Standards, executed warrants and visited premises suspected of involvement in handling stolen goods and other criminal activity. One significant result saw the arrest of a suspect after officers located suspected THC-infused products, illicit vaping products and non-compliant tobacco products. A large quantity of evidential material, including digital devices and CCTV equipment, was seized. A second suspect was subsequently arrested as part of the ongoing investigation. Due to concerns regarding criminality linked to the premises and the associated impact on the local community, officers secured emergency action to prevent further offending and sought a closure order through the courts. Tuesday - Tracker Cycle ArrestOur proactive approach to tackling cycle theft continued this week through the deployment of tracker bicycles in theft hotspot locations across the borough. After one of the bicycles was stolen, officers tracked its movement to Kew, where a suspect was arrested. The individual was also wanted after being recalled to prison and assaulted officers during the arrest. Cycle theft remains a priority for Richmond officers, and we continue to use innovative tactics to identify and arrest prolific offenders. Wednesday - Large Cannabis Factory Dismantled in WhittonActing on information from local residents, officers from Whitton Safer Neighbourhood Team executed a drugs warrant at an address in Harvey Road. Inside, officers discovered a sophisticated cannabis cultivation containing more than 150 plants spread across several rooms, supported by extensive lighting, ventilation and irrigation systems. Alongside the enforcement activity, PCSOs carried out reassurance visits to neighbouring properties, keeping residents informed and addressing community concerns. Investigations to identify those responsible remain ongoing. This result demonstrates the vital role that community intelligence plays in helping officers tackle organised criminality and keep neighbourhoods safe. Thursday - Arrest Following Neighbourhood DisorderOfficers responded to ongoing reports of disorder at an address in Hampton. Following enquiries, one individual was arrested for public order offences and subsequently assaulted an officer during the arrest process. Thankfully, the officer was not seriously injured. The suspect remains subject to ongoing criminal investigations. Friday - Continued Enforcement and Prevention ActivityToday, Richmond officers have been carrying out a range of proactive activity across the borough, including: ✅ Conducting a Live Facial Recognition operation in Richmond Town Centre to identify wanted offenders and those sought by the courts. ✅ Attending court to seek a Closure Order against premises linked to criminality, anti-social behaviour and community harm. ✅ Attending court to pursue a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) against an individual responsible for persistent offending and anti-social behaviour. ✅ Continuing high-visibility patrols across key town centres, transport hubs and identified hotspot locations. Working for Richmond Every DayAlongside these notable operations, Richmond's local neighbourhood officers continue to work every day on the issues residents tell us matter most. This includes: 🔹 Investigating local crime reports and anti-social behaviour. 🔹 Pursuing offenders linked to burglary, robbery, violence and theft. 🔹 Conducting reassurance patrols and problem-solving patrol plans. 🔹 Safeguarding vulnerable victims and supporting those most at risk. 🔹 Working with schools, housing providers, local authorities and community groups. 🔹 Gathering intelligence to tackle repeat offenders and organised criminality. 🔹 Providing crime prevention advice and engaging with residents across our communities.
Behind every arrest, warrant and enforcement action are officers and staff carrying out ongoing investigations, safeguarding vulnerable people and working to make Richmond a safer place to live, work and visit.
Thank you to everyone who continues to report concerns, engage with your local officers and support neighbourhood policing. Your information helps us take action, solve problems and keep Richmond safe. | ||
