Local Beat Officers Continue Action on Illegal E-Scooter Use Your local beat officers have been carrying out proactive patrols across the area to tackle the illegal use of e-scooters on public roads, pavements and other public places. During recent patrols, officers have seized a number of e-scooters being ridden unlawfully. Many people are unaware that privately owned e-scooters cannot currently be used on public roads, cycle lanes or pavements. They are only permitted on private land with the landowner's permission. The illegal use of e-scooters presents a risk to both riders and other members of the public. Concerns reported by residents include: Officers will continue to engage with riders, provide education where appropriate and take enforcement action when offences are identified. Seizures can be made under Section 165 of the Road Traffic Act when vehicles are being used without the required insurance. We would like to thank residents who continue to report concerns and provide information to their local policing team.
