I wanted to provide an update regarding the theft of motor vehicles, which members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. Good morning residents,
We regret to inform you that there have been 3 theft of motor vehicles between 17th and 19th October.
Streets affected are SHORTLANDS ROAD, ELM ROAD and EATON DRIVE. They have all been relay related thefts of electric KIA vehicles and in at least two of the incidents we are aware that the victims had used a faraday style bag to prevent this type of theft.
It is with regret that this did not stop the cars from being stolen.
Kia EV6 Black stolen from SHORTLANDS ROAD between 21:00- 08:00hrs on the 17th/18th October. Kia Niro stolen from ELM ROAD between 00:00-09:00hrs on the 18th October. Kia EV6 stolen from EATON DRIVE between 23:24- 23:29hrs 19th October.
If you or someone you know has an electric KIA vehicle then we are asking you to protect yourself as best you can. The faraday bags were not successful in preventing theft, therefore we would encourage the purchase of a steering wheel lock.
Please pass this on. If you live on these roads or around them and have good quality cctv that may have captured suspects walking around or vehicles passing by with visible license plate details, please do get in touch.
This is organised crime that is taking place between the hours of 23:30- 09:00 when residents are asleep and your Safer Neighbourhood Team are no longer on duty.
We are alarmed to see the increase and welcome any knowledge no matter how big or small to help us during these investigations.
Officers will be patrolling and making residents with these cars aware of crime prevention. If you do see any males in the late evening that you believe are behaving suspiciously, perhaps a car is lingering longer than you feel is necessary then get in contact with us.
We know that people can be concerned about the personal and financial impact of having their vehicle stolen, which is why we will pursue and arrest those who break the law. Please consider taking the following steps to keep your vehicle safe: Check that your vehicle is locked and secure every time you leave it. Thieves often look for easy opportunities to steal from vehicles. They will usually try the handles until they get lucky and find one that has been left unlocked. Keep your keys safe, out of view when at home and away from your front door. If you have a keyless entry vehicle, keep the key well away from the vehicle while at home and turn off wireless signals on your fob when its not being used. Consider putting the keys in a screened or signal blocking pouch, such as a Faraday Bag and check that it is still working every few months. Park your vehicle in a private garage if you can. If you don’t have access to one, try to park in a well –lit open space. Try to use public car parks that are part of the police approved Park Mark safer parking scheme. Secure your number plates with tamper resistant screws to avoid them being stolen and used by others.
We want your help to shape the future of policing across London. We are seeking your views on our new inclusion strategy to ensure that the Met is a police service that is trusted, representative and more effective at keeping London safe. You can have your say on our Inclusion Strategy consultation which runs until Thursday 26 November. |
