Staffordshire Police Burglary prevention alert

Staffordshire Police Burglary prevention alert

Staffordshire Police is reminding residents to remain vigilant following ongoing reports of burglars targeting homes by attacking rear uPVC doors and exploiting weaknesses in door locking mechanisms.

Offenders often target the rear of properties where they are less likely to be seen. Reports indicate that some criminals are attempting to gain entry by forcing or "snapping" vulnerable euro-cylinder locks fitted to uPVC doors, allowing access quickly and quietly.

How to Protect Your Home

🏠 Upgrade vulnerable locks
Consider fitting anti-snap, anti-drill and anti-bump locks that meet current security standards.

🔒 Always lock doors and windows
Ensure all doors and windows are secured, even when you are at home or leaving for a short period.

💡 Use security lighting and visible deterrents
Security lighting, CCTV systems and video doorbells can help deter opportunist offenders and provide valuable evidence if a crime occurs.

🌳 Keep rear gardens secure
Check fences, gates and side access points regularly and ensure they remain secure.

📦 Keep valuables out of sight
Store keys, handbags, laptops, mobile phones and vehicle keys away from windows and doors where they cannot be easily seen.

🤝 Support your community
Strong communities are one of the most effective crime prevention tools. Keep an eye out for neighbours, particularly those who may be elderly or vulnerable, and report anything suspicious.

🚨 Report suspicious behaviour
Please contact police if you witness anyone acting suspiciously around residential properties, attempting door handles, entering rear gardens without permission or taking photographs of homes without a legitimate reason.

Remember

Burglars often look for the easiest opportunity. Taking simple steps to improve your home's security can significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime.

If you witness a burglary in progress or believe a crime is taking place, call 999 immediately.

For non-emergency information or to report suspicious activity, contact 101 or report online via the Staffordshire Police website.
