Appeal after couple assaulted by man they tried to help, Marldon

We are appealing for witnesses and dash-cam footage after a couple were assaulted by a man they had given a lift to and tried to help.

At around 10.45pm Saturday 17 October the husband and wife were driving along the A381 between Totnes and Newton Abbot when they noticed an intoxicated man walking along the unlit road.

Concerned for his welfare they offered him a lift.

The man was initially grateful before becoming agitated and aggressive.

The suspect then assaulted the female victim who was driving.

The driver then stopped the car on Five Lanes Road, Marldon, and the suspect was asked to get out of the car.

The suspect refused and started punching and kicking both the man and woman, causing injuries.

The suspect is described as a white male in his mis 30s, 5ft 10ins to 6ft in height, of average to athletic build and with short brown hair and no facial hair.

He was wearing a grey jacket with a white shirt and had some existing injuries to his face.

Officers investigating the incident are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who has relevant dash-cam or even CCTV footage from the areas mentioned between 10.45pm and 11.15pm.

It is believed two vehicles stopped the area of Five Lanes Road and their occupants would have witnessed the incident.
