Burglary to out buildings |

Chipping Norton Neighbourhood Team would like to make residents aware of a recent burglary at a property in the Finstock area, where thieves targeted expensive electric bicycles stored inside a secure outbuilding. It is understood that the bicycles had been advertised for sale on Facebook Marketplace. There is a possibility that information shared through the advertisements or conversations with potential buyers may have helped those responsible identify the location where the bicycles were being stored. Although this has not been confirmed, it serves as an important reminder to be cautious when selling valuable items online.
STAY SAFE WHEN SELLING ONLINE! Protect your personal information – Avoid sharing your home address, telephone number or other personal details with potential buyers unless absolutely necessary. Be mindful of photographs – Check that your pictures do not reveal house numbers, street names, vehicle registrations or identifiable features of your property. Arrange safe meeting locations – Where practical, meet buyers in a busy public place rather than inviting strangers to your home. Be cautious of suspicious enquiries – Be wary of anyone asking unnecessary questions about where an item is stored, your home security or when you are likely to be at home. Keep valuables secure – Ensure sheds, garages and outbuildings have suitable locks, alarms and additional security measures, particularly when storing expensive bicycles or equipment. Trust your instincts – If a potential buyer seems overly interested in your property rather than the item being sold, consider ending the conversation. REMEMBER: Criminals can use information shared online to identify valuable property and potentially vulnerable locations. Even seemingly harmless details can reveal more than you realise. Please remain vigilant and consider what personal information you are sharing when advertising items for sale. | ||
