Halloween Advice for Residents

As Halloween approaches, many families will be celebrating with trick-or-treating. While this can be an enjoyable event for children and communities, it's important to be respectful of those who do not wish to take part. Police forces across the UK encourage residents to make their preferences clear and ask everyone to celebrate responsibly.

If You Do Not Wish to Receive Trick-or-Treaters

Consider displaying a "No Trick or Treat" sign in your window or on your door. These signs help indicate that you do not wish to participate and should be respected by callers.

You are under no obligation to answer the door if you do not wish to.

Staying Safe at Home

Be vigilant when answering the door to unexpected callers.

Check who is there through a window, spyhole, video doorbell, or door chain before opening the door.

If you feel uncomfortable or unsure, do not open the door.

Respect for the Community

Children and parents should only call at houses clearly displaying Halloween decorations or otherwise indicating they are participating.

Respect any property displaying a "No Trick or Treat" notice.

Anti-social behaviour such as throwing eggs, flour, or causing damage is unacceptable and may constitute a criminal offence.

Reporting Concerns

Report anti-social behaviour via 101 or online through your local police force.

If a crime is in progress or there is an immediate risk to life or property, call 999.

Let's work together to ensure Halloween remains safe, enjoyable and respectful for everyone in our community. 🎃👻
