Is your teen’s favourite Discord server a recruitment ground? |

Hi Cheshire Residents,
If your teenager is into gaming, you are likely used to hearing them chat with friends on Discord or mention groups on Telegram. For most, these platforms are just digital hangouts for sharing gaming clips and strategies.
But there is a hidden side to these spaces that parents need to know about.
Cyber criminals and malicious groups are actively using popular messaging apps to recruit bright, tech-savvy teenagers. They do not introduce themselves as criminals. Instead, they operate in the shadows of gaming communities, using "soft recruitment" tactics that look entirely innocent to an impressionable teen.
Here is how the pipeline usually works: Under the UK's Computer Misuse Act, the law does not make allowances for teenage curiosity or online peer pressure. Running a script to crash a server is illegal, regardless of whether it was done for fun.
What you can do today:
Kind regards
