Operation Bang

Operation Bang

I wanted to provide you with an update regarding ASB, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey.

For the next two weeks, Gwent Police will be conducting Operation Bang. This focuses on visible patrols and engagement during Halloween and Bonfire where we normal see an increase in anti-social behaviour.

The Bettws Neighbourhood Policing team will be out conducting visible patrols, deterring anti-social behaviour, raising awareness around being safe and engaging with our communities during this busy period.

We want to ensure everyone enjoys a safe and enjoyable Halloween and Bonfire Night. Please follow the below advice:

Remember not everyone wants a knock at the door. When out trick-or-treating, check if there are decorations on houses. If there are none, they will likely not want any unexpected visitors.
Keep an eye out for our posters for ‘No Callers Please’ or ‘Trick-or-Treaters Welcome’ on peoples’ front door.
Never throw eggs or fireworks at people, vehicles or properties.
Attend organised firework displays where possible. These events are organised for an enjoyable yet safe evening.
Respect local residents, businesses and public spaces.
Report any anti-social behaviour or other related issues to police.

If you would like to have a copy of the posters 'No callers please' or 'Trick-or-treaters Welcome'. You can download your own by clicking this link: https://s-url.co/CIA2AA

If you see the team out on patrols, please feel free to stop us and say hello!

Tackling antisocial behaviour can be a complex issue, and one which requires input and action from more than just the police.

The Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 aims to put victims first, giving power to local people and enabling professionals to find the best solutions for their local area.

The act provides the police, local authorities and other local agencies with flexible tools and powers that they can use to respond quickly and effectively to antisocial behaviour.

These include:

• civil injunctions.
• criminal behaviour orders.
• public spaces protection orders.
• community protection notices.
• dispersal powers.
• closure powers.

The act also includes measures such as the Community Remedy and antisocial behaviour case reviews which empower victims and communities to have a say in the outcome of their reports and hold agencies to account.

If you ever experience this issue or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at https://www.gwent.police.uk, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat or call the non-emergency number 101.

Alternatively, you can stay 100 per cent anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their untraceable online form at crimestoppers-uk.org.
