Community Engagement in Harpurhey Precinct |

|
As part of my development as a Student Police Officer, I recently spent time in Harpurhey Precinct with colleagues, gaining a greater understanding of some of the local issues affecting the community. During the visit, we met with the security team at the precinct and discussed the strong partnership working that takes place between police, security staff, Manchester City Council and other agencies to tackle issues such as homelessness, begging and shoplifting. We also looked at the Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) signage installed around the precinct and discussed how these measures help to address anti-social behaviour and improve the environment for local residents, businesses and visitors.
A key part of the day involved speaking directly with individuals experiencing homelessness and those who were begging in the area. We took the opportunity to engage with them, understand their circumstances and offer information about the support services that are available. Community engagement is an important part of neighbourhood policing, and it was valuable to see firsthand the collaborative work being carried out to support vulnerable people while helping to keep Harpurhey Precinct a safe and welcoming place for everyone.
Thank you to the precinct security team and partner agencies for taking the time to share their knowledge and highlight the positive work taking place within the community.
