Keyless car theft and vehicle security this winter |
||
|
As the darker evenings arrive we traditionally see an increase in reports of theft from vehicles and keyless car thefts. Here are some measures you can take to make a would be thieves job much harder.
Keep car keys safe, never leave them on show in a hallway or by an open window. Consider using a signal blocking pouch or box if your vehicle is equipped with keyless start or entry. (if you are unsure ask your dealer/ garage to check the vehicles specification) Use a steering wheel lock to slow down and deter would be thieves. Check if your vehicle has an immobiliser installed. Fitting an immobiliser will make stealing your vehicle much harder and can lower your insurance premium. Park your vehicle in a well lit space ideally covered by CCTV and in clear view of yours and neighbouring homes view. Fold down lockable driveway bollards can provide an effective extra layer of security.
Always remember to lock your vehicle when leaving it anywhere in the day and evening. We see many instances of theft from insecure vehicles at this time of year, most entirely preventable by simply double checking the vehicle is locked. Never leave high value items on display in your vehicle even if left for just a few moments, a thief will take any opportunity given to them.
Always report any suspicious activity around yours or someone else's vehicle to us. If we don't know about it, we can't tackle it. If you see a crime taking place always call 999.
Thank you.
