Cold Caller Warning & Advice to Residents |
||
|
We have received a report of a cold caller knocking on a resident's door in Cornwall Court, Rugeley offering to cut bushes and carry out gardening work for a fee. During the conversation, the price being quoted began to change, and the caller then claimed additional work was needed on the property, demanding more money.
Please be vigilant if approached by uninvited traders.
Advice for residents: 🏠 Do not feel pressured into agreeing to work on your doorstep. 💷 Never agree to a price that is unclear or keeps changing. 📝 Always obtain written quotes and compare prices from reputable companies. 🔍 Check credentials, reviews and recommendations before employing anyone. 🚪 It is okay to say "no" and close the door if you feel uncomfortable. 👥 If possible, discuss any proposed work with a family member, friend or neighbour before making a decision. 📞 If you feel threatened, intimidated or believe a crime is taking place, contact Staffordshire Police. In an emergency, always call 999.
Cold callers can often target vulnerable residents and use high-pressure sales tactics to secure work. Please look out for neighbours, relatives and friends who may be more susceptible to this type of approach.
If you have information about suspicious doorstep callers in your area, please report it via 101 or online.
