Violence against women and girls update |
||
|
I wanted to provide an update regarding violence against women and girls, which members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. VAWA, or the Violence Against Women Act, is a federal law enacted in 1994 that addresses various forms of violence against women, including domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and dating violence. It provides legal protections for survivors of these crimes and includes provisions for housing, immigration, and financial relief. The act has been reauthorized multiple times, most recently in 2022, and it recognizes economic abuse as a form of violence under its provisions. We take violence against women and girls incredibly seriously and will do everything in our power to ensure those who commit these crimes see justice. Please visit our website for the latest advice and guidance. If you have been the victim or have witnessed a crime, it is very important that you report this as early as possible. We also provide advice for everyone on how to keep one another safe. We want your help to shape the future of policing across London. We are seeking your views on our new inclusion strategy to ensure that the Met is a police service that is trusted, representative and more effective at keeping London safe. You can have your say on our Inclusion Strategy consultation which runs until Thursday 26 November. | ||
