E Scooter Seized
Whilst on foot patrol in Wareham town centre this afternoon, I observed an individual riding an e-scooter on the public highway. The rider was stopped and advised regarding the legislation surrounding the use of privately owned e-scooters, the E Scooter was then seized. Many people are unaware that privately owned e-scooters are classed as motor vehicles under the Road Traffic Act 1988 and cannot be used legally on public roads, pavements, cycle lanes or other public spaces unless they meet the legal requirements for motor vehicles, including appropriate insurance, registration and licensing. The Neighbourhood Policing Team has received a number of reports and complaints regarding the illegal use of e-scooters across the area. As a result, officers and PCSOs will continue to carry out patrols and take positive action where offences are identified. We would like to remind the public that riding a privately owned e-scooter in public places may result in police action which will include seizure of the vehicle. Thank you to those who continue to report concerns to us. Your information helps us identify problem areas and keep our communities safe. #pcso5301 #Wareham #NeighbourhoodPolicing #RoadSafety #OpRelentless #SaferCommunities | ||
