Here’s an update on burglary locally. We would like to reassure the community that local officers are actively investigating a series of residential burglaries that have occurred in the area between 10 October and 27 October 2026.
While these incidents are understandably concerning, there is currently no evidence to suggest that residents are being specifically targeted. Our enquiries are progressing, and officers are conducting additional patrols and investigative activity to identify those responsible and prevent further offences.
The offences have involved entry being gained via rear gardens, with jewellery and luxury watches amongst the items stolen. Analysis of the offences has identified several similarities, and we are exploring all lines of enquiry. In a number of cases, access to the rear gardens is limited, leading investigators to believe offenders may be using routes through Westminster Cemetery and potentially the nearby railway lines and embankments to access and leave the area undetected. We are working with relevant partners to further assess these potential access routes.
As we move into the winter months and the evenings become darker, we encourage residents to take some simple precautions to help protect their homes. Please consider using external security lighting, motion-activated lights and timer switches for indoor lights when you are away from home. Well-lit gardens, side passages and rear access points can act as an effective deterrent to offenders and help neighbours identify suspicious activity.
We also encourage residents to: • Ensure doors, windows and side gates are locked and secure, even when at home. • Keep jewellery, watches and other high-value items out of sight and, where possible, secured in a safe. • Check that alarms, CCTV systems and video doorbells are operational. • Remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour around rear access routes, alleyways, open spaces, gardens, the cemetery and areas adjacent to the railway. • Look out for neighbours, particularly those who may be vulnerable or away from home.
If you have CCTV, video doorbell or dashcam footage from 10 October to 27 October 2026, particularly covering rear access routes, gardens, alleyways, the cemetery boundaries or locations near the railway line, please review it and contact police if you identify anything suspicious.
We understand that incidents such as these can cause concern within the community. Please be assured that your neighbourhood policing team is committed to pursuing those responsible, supporting affected residents and working with the community to keep our neighbourhood safe.
Thank you for your continued support, vigilance and cooperation.
