Fireworks can have a serious impact on animals
As we approach the fireworks season, we are reminding residents to use fireworks responsibly and to consider the effects loud bangs and sudden flashes can have on pets, livestock and wildlife.
Animals can experience significant fear, stress and anxiety when exposed to fireworks, which can lead to injury, escape, behavioural changes and other welfare concerns.
🐾 If you are planning a firework display, please notify your neighbours in advance, particularly those who own pets, keep livestock or care for vulnerable animals. Giving advance notice allows owners to take appropriate steps to protect their animals and minimise stress and distress.
⚠️ Deliberately using fireworks in a manner intended to frighten, distress or cause unnecessary suffering to animals may constitute an offence under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 and will be investigated accordingly.
We encourage everyone to act responsibly and be mindful of the wider impact fireworks can have within our communities.
✅ Notify your neighbours in advance if you are planning to use fireworks.
If you witness fireworks being used irresponsibly around animals, or have concerns regarding animal welfare, please report the matter to the appropriate authorities.
