Electric scooter seized

Whilst on patrol yesterday, SNT officers observed a youth wearing a balaclava riding an electric scooter on the pavement at speed. The rider appeared to be paying a significant amount of attention to the police presence, which raised officers' suspicions and prompted them to stop the male.

The rider was spoken to and relevant checks were carried out. These revealed that he was using the electric scooter without valid insurance and otherwise than in accordance with a driving licence. As a result, the scooter was seized under the appropriate legislation.

The youth was subsequently taken home and returned to the care of his parents. Suitable advice was provided regarding the legal requirements for riding electric scooters and the offences identified.
