Drug dealing (South Highfields including Lincoln Street, Conduit Street, College St, Upper Tichborne Street)
Reduce retail theft and shoplifting offences affecting businesses on London Road
Address anti-social behaviour, drug-related activity, and environmental concerns affecting the St James Road and Abingdon Road area through enforcement, problem-solving, partnership working, and increased police visibility.
Work continues to tackle drug dealing and associated anti-social behaviour in and around the Lincoln Street area. As part of our ongoing efforts, we are currently progressing action against two properties that we believe are being used to facilitate drug-related activity. We are seeking Closure Orders for both addresses, which would help prevent individuals from using these locations for criminal activity. The applications are currently with our legal team, and we hope to receive court dates in the near future. As with many legal processes, there is currently a waiting period, and we appreciate the community's patience while these matters progress through the courts. In addition, local PCSOs recently attended Prebend Gardens alongside representatives from the local council to discuss potential improvements to the park. The aim is to explore ways of making the area more attractive and welcoming for residents and encouraging greater use by the local community. These discussions are still at a very early stage, but we will share further updates as plans develop and information becomes available. We are pleased to report that, through the continued hard work of local officers, partner agencies and the support of the community, there has been a noticeable reduction in the number of individuals gathering in the area and causing harm or concern. We have also seen a decrease in reports from members of the public relating to these issues. While there is still work to do, these improvements are encouraging and demonstrate the positive impact of the ongoing activity being carried out in the area.
Work is continuing to reduce shop theft and associated crime along the London Road corridor. This week, officers from the local Beat Team and Safer Streets Team swapped their uniforms for plain clothes and carried out proactive patrols aimed at identifying and apprehending those responsible for thefts from local businesses. After a slow start to the operation, officers caught a suspect red-handed attempting to leave a store without paying for items. Following the arrest, officers remained in the area and, after receiving information from a member of the public regarding a group taking drugs in Cedar Park, quickly attended and identified a further two individuals who were wanted in connection with outstanding shop theft offences. Overall, the operation resulted in three arrests for shop theft and, encouragingly, there were no reported shop theft offences on the London Road corridor during that day. This was a positive outcome and demonstrates the value of proactive policing, partnership working and information provided by the public. We would like to thank those who continue to report concerns and suspicious activity to us. Our work to tackle shop theft and support local businesses will continue, and further operations are planned as we remain committed to making the London Road corridor a safer place for everyone
Work is continuing in and around the St James Road area to address anti-social behaviour and improve community safety. Unfortunately, planned repairs to two gates that help prevent access to an area of abandoned land have been delayed while we await the parts needed to complete the work. We understand the importance of securing this location and are working with our partners to ensure the repairs are carried out as soon as possible. In the meantime, officers will continue to carry out regular patrols in the area to provide reassurance to local residents and identify those responsible for causing the most harm within the community. These patrols will help deter anti-social behaviour and ensure that any concerns raised by residents can be dealt with promptly.
