This morning, Leominster SNT set up a small joint partnership operation with Animal welfare and Civil enforcement teams from Herefordshire Council at Mill Street in Leominster. The operation looked at agricultural and livestock vehicles, unliveried vans and cars, on the look out for rogue traders, fly tippers or those committing livestock or theft offences (stolen goods).
We stopped 41 vehicles in the short time that we were there and thankfully on the whole, most were compliant with documentation, whether that was for transportation of animals, waste disposal licences or driving documentation.
We did however have two vehicles that had no tax, which were dealt with at the road side and two vehicles which had bald tyres (one almost to the cord, so the driver was given a ticket). Both vehicles had to get the tyres rectified before they could continue on their journeys as road safety remains a priority.
Whilst we appreciate it is an inconveineance to be stopped by the police in this manner, this operation was specifically around rural crime and we are thankful for the communities co-operation.
