Dear Resident, As communities come together to celebrate Bonfire Night (Guy Fawkes Night) and Diwali, we would like to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable festive period. While these celebrations are an important part of our cultural calendar, we are reminding residents to take sensible precautions to help keep themselves, their families, and their neighbourhoods safe. Firework Safety Only purchase fireworks from reputable retailers and ensure they comply with UK safety standards.Follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully.Never allow young children to handle fireworks.Keep spectators at a safe distance and ensure fireworks are directed away from homes, vehicles, and public spaces.Never throw fireworks or aim them at people, animals, buildings, or vehicles.Keep a bucket of water or a hose nearby in case of emergency.Respect Your Community Be mindful of neighbours, particularly young children, elderly residents, shift workers, and those with pets.Keep noise to reasonable levels and be considerate when setting off fireworks, particularly late at night.Dispose of spent fireworks safely once they have cooled completely.Prevent Anti-Social Behaviour Parents and guardians are encouraged to know where their children are and to discuss the safe and lawful use of fireworks.Fireworks should not be used in streets, parks, canal towpaths, alleyways, or other public places where they may place others at risk.Report persistent anti-social behaviour, vandalism, or nuisance activity to police via 101 or through your local authority.Protect Your Property Ensure sheds, garages, and outbuildings containing flammable materials are secure.Keep wheelie bins, combustible materials, and garden furniture away from bonfires.Do not leave fireworks unattended and store them in a cool, dry place before use. Road and Public Safety Take extra care when driving or cycling as visibility may be affected by smoke and larger gatherings.Be aware of increased pedestrian activity around places of worship, community venues, and organised events.Reporting Concerns Report non-emergency incidents by calling 101 or via the Metropolitan Police website. In an emergency, or if there is an immediate risk to life or property, call 999.By celebrating responsibly and looking out for one another, we can ensure that Bonfire Night and Diwali remain safe and enjoyable occasions for everyone.
